You’ll set the roadmap, lead delivery of high-impact platform work and stay close to the code while mentoring and line-managing a small team of engineers (1-2 to start off with).This is a highly technical, hands-on, player/coach role with real ownership and clearly defined growth trajectory. Ideally you'd have line managed someone before, but this could also be your first time line managing as long as you have led from a technical perspective.What success in the first 6-12 months looks like:Data platform (ingestion, orchestration, warehousing) runs smoothly and reliably with minimal firefightingClear technical roadmap for data engineering, focused on delivery, not abstract strategyImproved observability and reliability across pipelinesFaster onboarding of new data feeds/providers through standardisation (“paved roads”)Tangible progress on APIs & feeds as a commercial product capabilityStrong technical leadership and mentoring for the team✅ Must have requirements:Cloud‑native background (AWS & GCP is ideal; strong experience in one is fine)Orchestration experience (Dagster preferred, Airflow or similar acceptable)Strong Python and SQL fundamentalsProven ownership and accountability for production data systemsHigh technical confidence – able to teach others and challenge when neededBias for action: willing to make decisions, ship, learn and iterate👍 Nice to haves:Domain expertise / exposure to regulated financial data, pricing data, instruments, bonds/loansExperience working for companies ingesting data from complex third‑party providers (e.g. SEC, Moody’s, Fitch)DBTData ingestion tooling (e.g. Airbyte)Experience with CDC / streaming / near‑real‑time pipelines
