Salt is currently hiring a Machine Learning Engineer for a client of ours in Amsterdam.This is a contract role for 9 months.The Machine Learning Engineer is a technical subject-matter expert who drives significant business impact by owning projects end-to-end — from ideation and data collection to model development, experimentation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration in production environments.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain production-grade machine learning models, features, and pipelines with scalability, monitoring, and retraining capabilities.Write clean, reusable, and efficient code using appropriate technologies and best practices.Monitor model and product performance, ensuring measurable business impact and acting when requirements are not met.Apply structured thinking to identify opportunities and solve complex problems across domains.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliver high-quality ML solutions.Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Continuously stay up to date with advancements in Machine Learning and AI.Contribute to improving ML tooling, infrastructure, and best practices.Participate in on-call rotations as required.Education & ExperienceBachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or a related field.4+ years of relevant experience applying Machine Learning to business problems in production environments.Requirements of Special Knowledge/SkillsStrong knowledge in areas such as Recommender Systems, Deep Learning, Information Retrieval, Computer Vision, Speech Recognition, Causal Inference, or large-scale ML systems.Experience working with large datasets, experimentation frameworks, scalability, and optimization.Experience with data-driven product development (analytics, A/B testing, experimentation).Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, or similar.Experience with version control systems.Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.Proven ability to collaborate closely with cross-functional partners (e.g., data scientists, product managers, engineering managers, and business stakeholders) to deliver end-to-end solutions, with strong business understanding and teamwork skills.Generative AI ExperienceHands-on production experience with Generative AI systems (LLMs and/or agent-based applications), including deployment, monitoring, scaling, evaluation, and reliability considerations.Experience designing or contributing to agentic systems and AI application architectures.At least 1 year of recent hands-on Generative AI experience within the overall 4+ years of relevant experience.
