As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll build and maintain the analytics backbone that powers product decisions, operational insights, and financial reporting. You’ll design and operate data pipelines, dimensional models, and ETL systems that transform raw transaction and event data into reliable, decision-ready metrics.The Opportunity:You’ll take ownership of the analytics layer within a high-scale financial platform operating across multiple countries. This role offers autonomy over data modelling, pipeline performance, and system optimisation, with direct impact on product outcomes and operational efficiency.The team values pragmatic engineering, measurable results, and close collaboration across product, analytics, and engineering.What you will do:Lead the design and implementation of dimensional models, building facts, dimensions, and One Big Tables (OBTs) with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable analytics.Standardize the process of metric creation to guarantee consistent and trustworthy data across the board, setting conventions and checks for all teams.Make analytics AI-friendly by incorporating context and metadata into data models, enabling LLMs and retrieval systems to work with accurate inputs.Optimize performance and costs in our Snowflake environment, tuning queries and evaluating trade-offs for better latency and reduced spend.Enhance the analytics developer experience by authoring dbt macros, implementing CI/CD checks, and building tools to speed up metric iteration and experimentation.Design and monitor robust ETL pipelines, being ready to troubleshoot and remedy production incidents under on-call responsibilities.Who will thrive here?:You have substantial experience in data engineering, specifically in dimensional modelling and ETL processes.You are skilled in Python, SQL, dbt, and have a working knowledge of orchestration tools like Dagster or Airflow.Hands-on experience managing and optimising Snowflake is a must; you are confident in tuning performance and understanding cost implications.You are practical and results-oriented; your focus is on end-to-end ownership and producing solutions that drive measurable outcomes.You thrive in collaborative environments and can partner effectively with product, ops, analytics, and engineering teams.Tech StackOur client is a trailblazing fintech start-up focused on driving cashless transactions across Africa, with a growing team and an innovative approach tailored for millions of users.Python .
