Data Scientist : Stop Analysing the Past. Start Shaping What Comes Next.Most data science roles focus on optimising dashboards or fine-tuning models that already exist. This role is different: you’ll help define how AI and machine learning should shape the future of customer insight.MRJ Recruitment is partnering with a high-growth SaaS business operating at the intersection of AI, AdTech, and MarTech, with teams and customers across the UK, USA, and Europe. They have access to vast volumes of real-world consumer data. The opportunity now is to turn that data into intelligence-led product capability.This is a commercially-driven, end-to-end product role in a scrappy, build-from-scratch environment. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders, turning ambitious ideas into experiments, models, and ultimately shipped product. There is no pre-written roadmap: you’ll help create it.Key ResponsibilitiesPartner with senior stakeholders to understand product ideas, assess feasibility, and shape an AI/ML direction that is commercially viableBuild and deploy machine learning models that unlock new customer insights at scale (predictive, prescriptive, and generative)Design AI-driven approaches that move beyond historical analysis into forward-looking intelligenceCreate validation frameworks and experimentation loops to test hypotheses quickly, learn fast, and iterate (expect repeat failures on the way to breakthroughs)Collaborate with product, engineering, and leadership to translate concepts into production-ready capabilityExplore and operationalise LLMs and advanced ML techniques in a real product environment, including respondent-level synthesis and multimodal inputs where relevantCommunicate technical work clearly, influencing product decisions and helping shift the business from insight reporting to intelligence-led decision-makingRequirementsPhD, or equivalent depth of expertise, in ML, statistics, computational social science, or a related discipline (research-led thinking, not just applying existing tools)Proven ability to solve ambiguous problems where the solution doesn’t already exist, and to create structure from uncertaintyStrong interest in experimental design and validation, including shaping what data to collect as well as how to model itExposure to (and genuine curiosity about) production ML and LLM-based approaches, with an engineering mindset toward shippingCommercial awareness: able to connect modelling choices to product outcomes, customer value, and business impactConfidence to challenge assumptions, influence stakeholders, and contribute to strategy-settingComfortable in scrappy, high-ownership environments where you build from zero and collaborate across many ideas and personalitiesNote: candidates from traditional consultancy backgrounds are unlikely to be a fit for this environmentWhat’s on OfferA high-ownership role with real influence: you’ll help define the roadmap, not inherit itDirect impact on a global product used by major brands across multiple marketsA business where AI is a core growth lever, not a buzzwordSpace to experiment, prototype, challenge thinking, and build ideas that actually shipGreat package: £120k-£130k base, Bonus, unlimited holidays, work from anywhere options, health and more...Interested in shaping what gets built next?
