You’ll enjoy a high degree of ownership, and help shape how we use AI and data to scale further!Your roleWe are seeking an experienced Staff Data Scientist in Amsterdam to join our team and lead our Data science & AI pillar and drive AI transformation in the company.In this role, you will join our Data & Insights team made up of Data Engineers, Data Analysts and Data Scientists. Our mission is to empower business owners across the whole company to make better informed and faster decisions thanks to Data and AI.You will play a key role in driving AI and data science adoption at company level and will own data science and AI initiatives end-to-end – from discovery and scoping to implementation, rollout and change management.We are looking for someone who wants to take active lead in making Fastned more AI-driven, who excels at stakeholder and change management in a fast-paced environment, and who is also happy to get hands-on to turn ideas into reality. We still operate very much like a startup: getting things done is key.As we are a small team, it’s important that you enjoy a multi-faceted role and gravitate to where you can make the biggest impact: one day cracking a complex engineering or modelling problem, the next day running an AI workshop with business teams.This is a great opportunity if you are entrepreneurial and highly motivated, and if you enjoy end-to-end ownership of innovative products in a fast-growing scale-up.Your overall responsibilities includeActively refine Fastned data science and AI strategy and roadmap and ensure we keep up-to-date with the latest trends when relevant for Fastned;Coordinate our AI Leadership Task Force, AI Champions and the execution of our cross-functional AI workstreams;Coach our second data scientist, and mentor other team members (data analysts and data engineers) on data science, machine learning and AI matters;Uncover data science opportunities and scope projects with various teams across Fastned;Develop data science models - simulations, machine learning, GenAI or causal inference depending on the use case;Test and deploy your models independently;Contribute to improve our data architecture and ways of working to facilitate data science work;Foster AI adoption at Fastned by hands-on supporting employees in using their GenAI tools successfully and building automations;We think you’ll thrive in this role if you have:7+ years working experience as a Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, Applied Scientist, AI Engineer or similar roleAbility to manage multiple stakeholders, including Change management and Leadership through Influence at multiple levels of the organisation including upper managementStrong business acumenSolid foundations in various advanced computational methods: Machine Learning, Simulation-based methods, and Causal inferenceProgramming skills (Python)Proven interest in GenAI and previous experience using AI-assisted developmentPrevious experience in deploying machine learning models into productionPrevious experience leading large scale data science / machine learning / AI projects involving multiple stakeholders and/or being the most experienced data scientist in a startup environmentAdditionally, it is a plus if you have experience:in the Energy industry or in an Operations-heavy domainin a fast-paced and fast-changing environmentunderstanding the Product way-of-working: you can speak the same language with our Product Managers and Software Engineering Team.Join us in building a better futureWe work hard to change the world, but we don't forget to recognise & celebrate our successes, big and small.
